Residence Kok (The Glass Box)  – Saxonwold, Johannesburg
Completion date – April 2010

This contemporary cubist expression was designed to take full advantage of the leafy views of Saxonwold.   Externally the landscape is reflected by the glazed façade giving the illusion of space.  It is essentially a minimalist glass box in a forest, three storeys high with the main bedroomed top storey at the tree canopy level.  The main building is set right back on the narrow plot to create a long vista and idea of space.  At night it is an “introspective lantern”.
This house won the 2010 Concrete Manufaturers National Award for a Design in Concrete Masonry.
